ABOUT GOOGLE LOGO

The Google logo appears in numerous places online and offline to identify this giant search engine company. Google designers have relied on several logo versions since its renaming, with the first Google logo created by one of its founders: Sergey Brin.

The Google logo and its slight modifications between 1999 and 2013, were designed by Ruth Kedar, a Brazilian artist and designer; the wordmark was based on the Catull typeface, an old-style serif typeface designed by a German font designer: Gustav Jaeger for the Berthold Type Foundry in 1982.

A revised Google logo debuted on September 1, 2015. The notable difference in the logo is the change in the typeface. The colours remained the same, however, Google switched to a modern, geometric sans-serif typeface called Product Sans, created in-house at Google (and also used for the Alphabet logo).

Slight modifications do exist in the logo compared to the Product Sans typeface: the most noticeable is the slanted ‘e’. The differences between the current Google logo and Product Sans allow for distinction between the Google logotype and product name. Product Sans is mainly used in the text of Google’s numerous services’ logotypes such as Maps, Drive, News, Earth, etc. The Product Sans font is also used on the Google Store and in some versions of Android.

Google includes various modifications or humorous features, such as cartoon modifications of their logo for use on holidays, birthdays of famous people, and major global events, such as Valentine’s Day, Mother’s Day, Bicycle Day, Earth Day, Father’s Day, Halloween, etc.

American-born South Korean graphic artist Dennis Hwang designed some of these Google logos which have become known as Google’s “Doodles”.

WHAT DO THE GOOGLE LOGO COLOURS MEAN?

In deciding what the colours in the Google logo mean, the logo designers at Google wanted to start with a pattern that was accepted and recognised, conveying the idea that Google itself was just as taken and recognisable as the first colour chart taught across the world.

CONCLUSION

The above new Google logo in full colour has been a great addition to the Google branding managed by the parent company Alphabet. The design and the variety of colours of the new Google logo represent the diversity of millions of customers and thousands of employees and surely have helped the company in the process of being better recognised and trusted by internet users.
