A VALENTINE’S DAY STORY
Before you discover some of the best Valentine’s Day marketing ideas & examples, let me tell you a personal story.
Some years ago, I was working in Kyoto when Valentine’s Day arrived.
That morning, when I arrived in my office I found some chocolates on my desk.
But not any type of chocolate.
Those special chocolates are called “honmei-chocos” and these ones, in particular, were homemade by a local famous chocolatier.
As a “Gaijin” in Kyoto, I did not know what that gift meant and a colleague explained that I was “liked” by the secret gifter.
I went home thinking who the gifter was and how I was going to thank that person. I lay on the floor and completed a yin yoga session which released the stress I had.
The next day, we all were ready to go out and use a great “Valentine’s Day” deal at a trendy bar offering “love” inspired cocktails and drinks.
During the night, I surprisingly found out that the gifter was that very special human I also really fancied for many months like no other person at work.
But I was not sure if it was ethical to have a romance with someone who was reporting to me.
I danced the night off when suddenly and without realising; I ended up alone with this special person in the middle of the dance floor.
We have been together since that night she accepted my “kokuhaku“ (love declaration).
Who would have thought that Valentine’s Day gift was going to change my life – literally – forever!
But Valentine’s Day is not all roses for many people.
Some experience Valentine’s Day overdose and excess to the point of making them sick.
